Hi, I’m Sarah Shaheen, creator of World on Pause Photography, a portrait photography service located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I created World on Pause because I realized my love of photography had a higher purpose–my camera became my medium to uplift, empower, and inspire my subjects. I believe that taking someone’s photo is an intimate exchange that ought to be treated with purpose and sensitivity. I hope to disrupt the all-too-commonly shallow, cookie-cutter act of portrait photography with my personal, empathetic, and authentic approach.

The World on Pause experience extends beyond a photography service. It is an opportunity to elevate your self-confidence and express your individuality.

The World on Pause approach:

  • Personal.

Portraits are not one-size-fits-all. Your experience is tailored to your unique needs and desires.

  • Empathetic.

Where easy-going patience meets professional quality. Your comfort and confidence is my #1 priority.

  • Authentic.

I would consider my style to be true-to-life, but bold. As my client, I invite you to show up just as well: be yourself, unapologetically.

Where it all started…

I began my photography journey at the age of 12 with an iPod Touch camera and Instagram filters. That year, I received my first point-and-shoot camera - the Nikon Coolpix L14.

By 17, I was taking senior portraits in my friend group prior to our high school graduation. Always the “camera girl” of any social circle, I skipped prom that year and took photos of my friends that night instead. Since then, I knew I loved to capture the important milestones in the lives of others.

From then on, my camera has become more like an extension of my body than a piece of equipment. It’s not that I seek to find the beauty and magic in ordinary life; it’s that I see it all around me and hope others can see it too.
